bzr fast-import is slow

Hi!

In a recent days I was testing darcs-fast-export (see
http://vmiklos.hu/project/darcs-fast-export/) in order to be able to
test what would be the possibility of using it as incremental darcs
importer at LP enriching LP's importing features - the question was
discussed here
(https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad-bazaar/+question/41438) and the
bug is reported here (https://bugs.launchpad.net/malone/+bug/298933)

Now, the point is that while testing darcs-fast-export I noticed that
the bzr's side (aka bzr fast-import) is quite slow in comparison with
git's fast-import (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bzr-fastimport/+bug/232177/) and maybe some
of the bzr devs can see/try and decide if some kind of improvement can
be made in regard?
