[MERGE] Make 'bzr co' more memory sensitive

Oh, I'm not disagreeing that it may be the right tradeoff.  Just
saying that when we're in the middle of a performance drive, special
care should be taken that performance degradations are carefully
quantified and marked for future re-examination.


Of course, that holds just as well without the "performance drive"
part, too.
