You are right to a certain extent but I think in most of these cases
nested branches would solve the problem to an acceptable level. For
example, all KDE projects are in one SVN repository but if each
project was a Bazaar branch inside one master Bazaar branch using
nested trees then users could checkout just that one project. This
does mean they may get some files not needed (eg a technical writer
would still get all the source code for a project) but this
granularity would be much better and much more acceptable than the
current situation. Personally, I think nested branches are a much more
important feature than filtered views...
