FWIW, my own practice in code approval messages is to keep the log
message, and trim even that if it's more than about 10 lines.

That's not the point, at least not yet. You write:

By your phrasing, you don't think that posting is "real work." Isn't
it? That's the question that is being asked at this point, ISTM. (I
don't know what the answer is.)
