Well, I talked to Barry Warsaw on IRC, and his comment was:

barry: jam: it's crufty, but that should work.  you can't really filter
out a specific topic


So yeah, we need to create an explicit "dummy" topic, just so people can
have 1 topic checked, and not the others.

On it. Apparently it might make it into a 2.2/3.0 release, they are
trying to not do anything to the 2.1 series.
