Well, this patch won't really ease the pain much; the client still does all the
work, so it won't be significantly faster than sftp://.
1.6 is a huge release, and late. I'm not going to push more stuff into it if I
can help it. This patch is mildly nice-to-have, pretty low risk, but I'm loathe
to do anything even vaguely destabilising that might further delay 1.6.
I'm strongly in favour of us getting back on the monthly schedule for 1.7 so we
don't end up in the “just one more feature because I don't want to wait a whole
release period” trap again, even for the really big features.
