New related branch appeared

I think I missed a memo somewhere along the line. My branches now have
a "submit branch" as well as a "push branch" and a "parent branch". Is
there a note anywhere of what the different roles actually are?

For example the trivially obvious "push branch" is the default
destination of push operations and rebase operations, the "parent
branch" is the default source for pull operations, the "submit
branch"...

Thanks.
