The "let me forever split out 10% of this large project into a
completely new one" use case was my primary motivation for getting
bzr-fast-export written. dato did the initial version of this and
james_w and I have since made some progress towards round-tripping
bzr.dev. The tools aren't there yet on that repo but may be on less
complex ones.

Let us know how you go and please don't hesitate to ask for help if you
run into problems.
