It's a guideline. There are times when it's sensible to break it.

No problem. It's great to see these sort of patches being sent in. The
Bazaar community has a high emphasis on making developers productive.
Tighter integration between Emacs and Bazaar can only help that. If you
have more ideas on improving the integration, I hope you decide to work
on them.
