Definitely a nice improvement.

I agree having an authorial voice and a bit of opinion in the manual
makes it both interesting and authentic; I'd see this more as more
accurately expressing how we feel rather than editing it out.

+The online help and `Bazaar User Reference`_ provide all the gory details
+on the commands and options available.

Is "gory details" is an Australianism?  At any rate it may confuse
some readers.  I'd just put "more details".
