I think I haven't done any commits to that repository so maybe it didn't 
get packed and optimized automatically. In normal situation commits do 
happen of course - except maybe for users who are just following the 
development. But I don't know how bzr works.

Unfortunately I don't have the old test repository anymore (not even 
backups between the tests). I only have the current 
after-the-pack .bzr/repository/obsolete_packs/ . Hope this helps:
