Thanks for your review.  I can't say I really agree, though.

All of these document our plans from last year to enhance performance,
and they're not directly relevant to our current situation.
planned-performance-changes.txt and planned-change-integration.txt only
refer to to iter_changes-based merging, which we now have.  commit.txt
has been obsoleted by our work on updating commit.

I think it's best to treat these as historical documents.  I don't think
there's a net benefit to modifying our old plans to reflect our new API.
 That's changing history.
