I would support that too. Let's do it.
I talked to Robert about this; I don't think we completely agree but
we understand each other.
For things that are relatively small amounts of code, stable,
applicable to many users, reasonably tested, and where the original
author agrees to it, I think we should merge them in. It is
technically possible to keep them in separate branches but review
them, test them together and build them into one tarball, but that is
more complex and I don't think it's much better than just merging them
in.
I'm still in favor of having better infrastructure for plugins and
helping people find and install the right plugins.
