[MERGE] Minor wording changes in User Guide

I was reading the User Guide for the first time tonight <blush> and I 
thought "Wow, this is really good!  It's as good as the Subversion and 
Mercurial books!"  But then, of course, I found a few things I would say 
differently, and as an excuse to send in my first patch, here's a small 
bundle with the changes.
