As soon as you start using a hard-linked repository, its efficiency gets
worse and worse. We should not be enticing people down the wrong path.
If we make hard-linked repos more discoverable than shared repos, we
are doing it wrong.
Also, my hardlinked-working-tree change has already been approved, and
it uses --hardlink to mean something else.
The only reason I haven't merged it yet was because Ian requested
testing on a filesystem that doesn't support hard links. I only have
ext3 and ntfs, and both of them support hard links. I expect I'll have
to create a VFAT filesystem on a loopback device.
