I find I am unable to stay with the knit format -- the paths get so long
that lstat fails due to overlong paths and hence Unison fails to copy
the files. I therefore tried:

bzr upgrade --rich-root-pack

on the knit format checkout and it seems to work. Not only is the .bzr
directory half the size there are no long file paths.
