People need solutions to the problems at hand *now*.

The missing handling of line ending in bzr is a problem in mixed
environments. One of the popularities of Svn is that is offers line
ending handling.

People can always choose not to use the line ending handling. That's why
it is opt-in:

  - per repository?
  - per directory
  - per files; regexps, globs?
