Hi Ben,
You cannot checkout into an existing directory. However, you can get
the same effect by going into that directory and then saying
bzr init
bzr bind MASTER_BRANCH_URL
if you want a selfcontained branch, not a checkout, then omit the second
step.

bzr commit will automatically mark them as deleted.
