Could you please also supply a change to the documentation that explains
what a plugin author needs to do to get the version to show up.

doc/en/user-guide/plugins.txt would seem to be most appropriate, but
perhaps the developer section of this should move under doc/developers/
or the new doc/en/developer-guide/. Ian, do you have any comments on
this?
