In terms of where to put things, the "User Guide" now have a section
called "Best Practices". I'd like a see this material made into a topic
to go in there.

FWIW, I'd be happy if my writing/editing was half as good as your
"rambling". :-) If you submit a doc patch, we can suggest edits then, yes?
