Thanks. You missed some opportunities for code reuse, so I've turned
Thunderbird into a subclass of Evolution. (I believe the Evolution
style is more common.)
I also updated the documentation to mention Evo.
I also compensated for the fact that T-bird doesn't have a universal
name. (Sometimes 'thunderbird', 'mozilla-thunderbird', 'icedove')
I think your choice of removing [MERGE] was right. You patch was
derived from mine, so it would have superseded mine.
Here is a new patch that provides both Evolution and Thunderbird support.
