how to signal to people that weaves should not be written to?

So, we want to break the idea that weave/knit objects match disk
storage.

As part of that it seems desirable to me that the api for inserting data
not be weave/knit based. But the current api get querying is really
quite nice, and knit based repos will in fact continue to insert data
via knits. So I'm thinking of decorating all exposed 'knits' to be
readonly, even if they are used for writing internally....
