That is correct.

I have not seen any benchmark yet. But my gut tells me that bzr
protocol transfers in bulk rather than file by file like HTTP and
SFTP. So yes, there will be penalty, especially compared to HTTP
(because of encoding). The question remains, though, that how slow the
penalty could be. Still, if Bazaar project itself can use HTTP for its
main bzr.dev branch, I guess it's some testimonial.
