[wishlist] is it possible to have flag for no-recurse status and diff?

I have project in which my sources files mostly resides in root of working tree,
but tests are in some subdirectory. Often after merge I want to check sources
twice, but keeping tests alone. I can look at test simply going to their subdirectory
and run 'bzr st .' or 'bzr di .'

Is it possible to have some flag, like --no-recurse, to disable status and diff
to recurse into subdirectories? How hard to implement this feature?
