It should be just "children" (no s), which is an irregular plural.

Do we ever want care to follow children?  I can see how it might be 
useful in some cases, but until (a) it works and (b) someone 
specifically wants to do it I would leave it off.  Aside from it not 
working, picking kwargs out of a dict passed through to a callable is a 
bit ugly.
