I don't see much relevance in the commiter myself.  I'm more
interested in the content of the revision, as summarised by the
checkin comment, so I'd rather have more space for that.

Not sure I like the adaptive approach - within the same branch some
pages may show author and some not.
I'd definitely like to see it configurable per branch.
