I'm -0 on --local/--remote.  The other branch might not be remote, and 
the first branch might not be local!

Maybe --this/--other?  I find --mine-only/--theirs-only to be pretty 
easy to remember, although I wonder if --mine-only ought to be the 
default (and --both an option), because that's what I almost always use.
