I've been thinking the same thing.  The message ID is actually the
primary key, so it will take a bit of work.  But I agree that shorter
URLs would be more convenient.

Perhaps it would be useful to include branch nicks or branch names in
merge request ids, e.g. bzr.http.redirection-4.  That might make them a
bit more mnemonic, but I'm not sure.
