I would recommend creating another local temporary "abspath_with_slash = 
_abspath + '/'".
Since otherwise you are creating a new object for every path in the 
list.

But otherwise it seems fine.

I probably agree with Martin that it would be better to just switch to 
tuples, but that can be done later.
