It appears that your patch makes this the *only* behavior, not just the
*default* behavior. That wasn't clear to me from your RFC. I thought
you were going to support both behaviors, with numbered dirs as the default.
But yeah, if I have to pick between numbered and named, I'd rather have
named. And since most of the developers use filesystems that support
long names, it seems like a good default.
