Hey James-

I've been going through old merge requests, and I came across this one.

I had a few small comments about what could be fixed, but then I didn't
hear from you again. Did you decide not to follow up?

I think the general changes are useful, so if you aren't available it
would be possible to get someone else to finish up (possibly me :)

I think this just got dropped temporarily, but it shouldn't take much to
dust it off and get it merged.
