[PING] usecase benchmarks

Hi all!

A while ago I posted a merge request for some benchmarks that Jan and me
implemented, see here for last version:

John and Robert looked at it and me and John went through several
iterations of fixes (and I think both are +1 now). Could somebody merge
it in? The branch is registered at launchpad:
