The patch looks okay, but isn't this predicated on the general
merge_sort changes, which aren't present here, and as I understand,
haven't been merged yet.

I agree with you in the other thread, that from generator has better
stability than from merge.

I wonder if we could do anything with our hypothetical 'branch tag' that
David would like for Launchpad. (basically just a revision property
indicating that this was a logically separate branch from the base,
rather than just a regular commit)

I'm happy enough with the changes for you to merge them, though.
