Simplified homepage vs plugins registry page

After the very inviting home page the plugins registry is quite a
shock.  Is there any chance of grouping by area of functionality.
Some obviously are of interest only to a limited community (baz
users, cia-baiters, kernel hackers, bzr developers).  Others ought
to be explored by anyone moving past the novice stage.
