You won't be able to do sharp edges on diagonal lines without
anti-aliasing.

I'll see if anyone on the art-team has the time to fine-tune the icons.
Adding a white box is good, but I think it would be nice to have crisp
looking icons that work on a variety of desktops without needing the
white bg.

That can take a bit of tweaking but I know there are scads of people who
are just itching for a way to contribute and haven't yet seen an
opportunity that's right for them.

If you have time, I'd go ahead and do the white bg for now.
