Well, there are a couple of things I'm doing. Erik needed a way to
create a branch without any history, that could be merged into the real
branch. (Think of putting a branch on a client site. It lets you make
client fixes, and merge them back, without giving the client your
complete source).

I don't remember exactly what I was doing, but I think it was that I had
a library split off from a main project, and was trying to add the same
files to both sides. I had accidentally added in the main project first,
and needed a way to add them in the library.

But yeah, import is another use case, which is handled very well by your
stuff.
