Why is bzr pull via http soooooo sloooooow?

Well, at one time, we showed the number of total revisions on the
progress bar while it was happening (and counted up how many we'd
grabbed; '6/13' etc).  That went away in a round of progress bar
cleanups and such, but I really miss it; it told me what the actual
_progress_ was.
