What works for me is bzr 0.8, same bzrk, python 2.4.4c0, python-gtk2
2.8.2, cairo 1.0.4 and python-cairo 1.0.2. I've had it working with
older bzr too, the most relevant in descending order would be
python-cairo, cairo, python-gtk I think.

The python-cairo 1.0.2 changelog mentions requiring cairo 1.0.2, that
might be a good hint.
