pre-commit hooks and $Id$ banners?

I think you'd almost certainly want to commit the unexpanded OR
re-expanded version.  Otherwise, you end up committing the expansion
from the LAST revision (which is what CVS does if you don't have a
precommit script squeezing them down), which would just be all wrong.
And it'd certainly be more compact and nice to have have it expanded
and changing all the time.
