[MERGE REVIEW] Progress bars interact nicely with warning/note

Hi all,

The overall progress bars are nice, but there's a problem in the way
they interact with message output.  This patch tries to address this by
clearing the overall progress bar every time warning, note or info is
called.

It's not the prettiest, but it seemed better than trying to alter the
existing python logging setup.
