I have always been uncomfortable with using the words "master" and
"slave", especially around black people.  Some organisations have gone
farther than I would, and systematically replaced those words with
soemthing else in IDE technical documentation.

So would "tied" branch work?  I think your "dependant" branch also
sounded possible.
