migrating from CVS

I don't know if that's quite true in the sense; branches are
directories, so you can't really "change this subdir to this branch
instead of that one".  Of course, you can "checkout" the whole tree
and have ALL the branches laid out side-by-side, which is mixed (and
nuts)...
