I was seriously suggesting that bzr support a mode in which it must be
notified of changes, instead of scanning for them, because if your tree
is too big to scan, you shouldn't scan it.  OpenSolaris is at or near
this size.

What you must document is between yourself and your employer.  This
would not be a configuration required of most users.  Only users with
large trees would want to prevent bzr from scanning for changes, but
they could do that by manually using "bzr edit" or by configuring their
tools to use it, or by specifying files at the commandline.  In any
case, an inotify daemon can only support Linux by definition.
