For that specific mail, it sounds like their problem was that branch
time was very poor. This has definitely been helped in 0.8-dev, and once
we get knits, we should also see a huge jump. I think not using
cElementTree also hurt a lot more than they realized.

It actually sounds like they were branching over http rather than sftp.
At least I could understand the behavior under those circumstances. sftp
should just be listing the directories and copying the files it finds.

Though I have found that right now in bzr.dev it takes a really long
time before it starts outputing information, and I'm wondering what it
is trying to do. We need to pay attention to that, because it isn't even
using bandwidth. It is slow even on my local network.
