permissions and checkouts

The primary use case is a shared branch. Which means the checkout
doesn't really matter. I don't think it is hard to maintain permissions,
but we wouldn't have to.
Although if I think about it, what if you had a public branch for the
web page, and you wanted any of a certain group to be able to maintain
it. It would be nice if you didn't have to manually fix up the
permissions, or have superuser to 'chmod g+w'.
For my personal use, I don't really care. I can give reasons why we
should, but they aren't really strong.
