It works just fine for me. I'm pulling it into my encoding branch
revno=1500.

I managed to get test_log to pass against multiple encodings.

I want to fix Erik's use case that the test suite borks when you have a
non-ascii username. And then I think my encoding branch will be ready
for merging.
