PEP-8 is one of those names that makes me wonder what sort of childhood
disease it protects against. :) 

Seriously though, I'd like to heavily underscore the importance of code
clarity and consistancy in free software projects -- especially in
something so loosely typed as python.

I have the unproven belief that the first couple times that a developer
looks at a codebase for a potential hack, they will spend about 2-4 hours on
the codebase. If they haven't figured out the code by then, they file a
bug and move on.
