For a user that does not need to differentiate the needs according to
tasks, this may look like it, but I don't see the "bloat" referred to.

People that do not need BZREDITOR variable do not define it and get
the value of EDITOR. Same in Python code: one simple test in
environment. In both case that's hardly a bloat, but serving the needs
of the end users.
