I talked about it with Robert when I was writing the code, and I think
it's not a good idea (I don't remember if he convinced me it is, or if
it was my own idea).  The change is too easy to do, so I don't think
there is enough motivation to keep cruft around ;-)

One of the motivations for this, is to make John's work easier; the new
API allows him some leeway, without new incompatibilities.

I volunteer to submit patches to any plugin that needs them, if the
author asks me to or if the author is MIA.

There is also a table at http://bazaar.canonical.com/BzrRefactoring that
should help people do it themselves.
