two quickies

1. Updated John's "diff" patch for @909.  (In the end I liked John's  
best.)  This allows diff to support revision ranges, which I find so  
important that it's the first patch I apply to any fresh bzr checkout.

2. Updated the "commit message may trim file list" patch for @909 and  
cleaned up the ugly mess I had made inside osutils.  This time I  
tried to keep it as general as possible in there, and put the grunt  
work inside cmd_commit.
